In times of change and uncertainty, I’m reminded of one thing that never wavers: the strength of our community. For many of us, community is more than a word—it’s the foundation that carries us through turbulent times.
This holiday season, I want all of us to rally around one of the most vital parts of that foundation: our small and local organizations and businesses.
Why This Matters
In the past year, some large corporations and their Owners/CEOs have made it clear that the money we spend at their businesses often goes toward priorities that don’t align with the well-being of our communities.
On the other hand, a lot of our small organizations and businesses have always faced uphill battles, but in today’s complex societal and economic landscape, the stakes are even higher. This season, let’s use our spending power to show that we believe in and support them, ultimately showing that our dollars will go toward building up people, families, and communities.
How We’re Making a Difference
Here are ways we can all contribute this season:
- Make Your Wishlist and Research “Small”: Consider the items you plan to purchase for yourself and others this season, and explore small businesses or organizations where you can find them.
- Engage Constructively and Authentically: Write a review, provide feedback, or express your gratitude. Small businesses thrive on connection, and your voice matters.
- Share to Social: Each time you choose a small business, share it with your network. Social media posts, reviews, and personal recommendations can make all the difference.
- Spread the Word by Gifting with Purpose: When someone receives an item or service as a gift from a small business, they’re more likely to patronize that business themselves. Your gift can spark a ripple effect of support.

Every choice we make this holiday season has the power to strengthen the bonds within our community. Our support is more than about buying—it’s about resilience and our collective futures.
